Well it's official...I'm dumb.

We went to the pumpkin patch one street over from our house today. It's just a "we throw the pumpkins in a field" type place but I usually get some pretty good pics there. I have been reading about portrait settings on digital cameras and how they can blur the background. I always get jealous of my friend's pictures taken with an SLR so I decided to try it. I have also read that if your digi camera doesn't have portrait, you can use macro and the background will blur. I should have tested it out at home and not taken a chance at messing up my patch pics but as previously stated, I am dumb. So I used the macro setting on about half my pics and ALL THOSE PICS ARE BLURRY. Not only did it blur the background, it blurred Caroline! This could be due to camera shake, me using the zoom which is not okay with macro or just my poor photography skills. I probably wasn't close enough for it to focus on her with macro. Anywho...I still got about 10 good pics out of 40 but it's irritating.

The other thing (as long as I'm whining) was that of all days for me to go - there was a group of about 8 people with babies who went there with the sole purpose of taking pics of their kids!! They monopolized the entire "patch" and I had to stand around and wait while they used up the good spots. Ugh. What a day. Actually it was a great day until I got home and saw these pictures! I have been so happy today. Oh well...you live, you learn. The picture at left is one of the good ones. It might look blurry because I had to downsize it to post but it's actually very clear IRL.

Sorry so whiney!

Hey Traci-I sympathize with your pain. I once downloaded all of my pics and then hit delete. I wasn't even pregnant at the time! Anyhoooooo...any chance the store could put on a camera education class? Maybe someone from Wolfe or Best Buy could send an informed rep out to answer questions. I know I would attend. I just bought a new digital and boy do I wish I had just stayed with my PHD camera. (push here dummy) My manual talks of things like Apeture and Histograms. HUH? Ok. Thanks for my SAHM soap box of the day.

So sorry that happened! I have made the mistake of using a special program mode, like for motion, for a whole roll of film. I'll set it for a particular shot and then forget to put it back on auto! The pic you posted looks great! Sorry I couldn't be there, the worst of my headache is gone today. It usually takes a couple of days to get over a really bad one. Talk to you soon!
