What's your favorite hymn?

There's a great thread on Two Peas tonight about hymns. It made me stop and think about my favorite. We sang part of it at church Sunday and I just love it. It's Great Is They Faithfulness. Here are the lyrics. It really speaks to me because I am always amazed at how faithful God is even though I am so imperfect. What's your favorite and why?

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Refrain

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Refrain

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

That's a challenge, Tracie! I sing in my church choir and we sing a mix of both traditional and contemporary music, so it's even harder to choose. I think my all time favorite is "Amazing Grace" or "Ave Maria". You know, part of God's Top Ten hit parade....

I have always liked Standing on the Promises of God. Initially I liked how the men sang part and the women sang part but after really listening to the words, it is comforting to know that God is consistant and unchanging. It isn't really in the top ten - so I don't hear it very often.

My favorite changes with my mood or my circumstances but a constant favorite is It Is Well With My Soul. I also love Christmas hymns any time of the year.

Traditional hymns have a special place in my heart. It's hard to pick my favorites but 2 at the top of my list are Rock of Ages and And Can It Be.

Happy Thursday Tracie.

I love the old hymns! That is one of my favorites. Bill and I had it sung at our wedding so it holds a special place in my heart.

Great Is They Faithfulness is my favorite too. Not surprising as we often think alike. I also love "My Jesus I Love Thee".

That is Greg's favorite too. My favorite (at least for the last 3 1/2 years) is a newer song. I think it is called This is how we overcome. Going through infirtility was the hardest thing that I have ever done. And I cry everytime I sing this song. The line that really hits me is... You have turned my mourning into dancing. You have turned my mourning into joy. My triplets are my hearts desire and God has truly blessed me.

Can Catholics post too? ha Hi Traci-It's RENEE.
My favorite is On Eagles Wings...
I love the song, but the real reason I like it cuz my dad, sisters and I were asked to sing for our church and this was one of the requested songs. SO...Dad, you would LOVE him, has had no choral coaching. The first line of the song is "You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord..." WELL, my dad leans back and very loudly sings "YOU-HOO". Thankfully, it was practice cuz we all laughed till tears came and it is now the "you-hoo song" Always makes me smile to think (or type) about it! thanks

I'm a southern Baptist so hymns are very close to my heart. :) LOVE 'em! One of my favorites, though, is It Is Well With My Soul. That song brings tears to my eyes!
