How do you know God is real?

I just read a thread on 2Peas about not believing in God. It absolutely amazes me how many people don't believe there is a God at all. I wondered what could possibly make them understand that God is really there and he loves them so much. So I asked myself, how do I KNOW that God is real? I realized that all through my life, I have seen His hand working in my life, I have heard His voice and I have felt His presence. Not concrete enough? Here are some examples:

- One day on my way home from work, I got in my brand new car and drove to a busy intersection. On the way down the street, I kept feeling a nagging sense that I should put my seatbelt on. Finally, I heard a voice say, "Tracie, you better put your seatbelt on, you might have a wreck." I didn't even realize it at the time because I thought it was just in my head but it was an audible voice that I heard with my entire being, not my ear. It was SO LOUD. I immediately put my seat belt on, came to a stop, pulled out into traffic and had a head-on collision that did $12,000 worth of damage to my car. If not for my seat belt, I would have flown thru the window, onto the pavement. God absolutely saved my life. When I woke up from hitting my head, a song was playing in my car. The impact of the crash had knocked the tape in my tape deck into the deck and it was playing. The song said something about angels all around me. After the wreck, I got everything out of my car (days later) and got the tape. I listened to every song and there wasn't a song about angels AT ALL. I will never forget that day, the moments I described or how God saved me.

- When I was young I had infitigo, a form of strep throat that causes blisters all over your body. I had a dangerously high fever and was in need of a Dr. My Mother called upon Jesus and prayed and my fever came down and I was fine after a little while. I have had so many prayers answered. Too many to recount.

The best evidence I can find is the presence of God that I feel on a daily basis when I begin to praise Him. God created us to worship Him. By singing praises TO Him (rather than about Him), we can draw closer to God. Psalm 100:4 says that we enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. Psalms 22:3 says he that He inhabits the praises of His people so when I start to pray, I start by praising. When I begin to sing to the Lord, He absolutely fills me up with His love and I begin to weep and feel abounding peace and love from Him. Whether I'm having a good or bad day, I can begin to praise Him and I immediately feel His presence.

If you believe in Jesus (and I hope you do), how do YOU know he's real? I'd love to hear! Maybe we can encourage someone today.

Oh my I could write a book on all of the reasons why I know Jesus is with me. The daily thing for me is the fact that I am a sahm and Chris is self employed. No steady paycheck and very steady expenses could worry me to death since I like to have finances planned well in advance. I have become very familiar with Phil 4:19 "my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus" His plan is so much greater than mine! We have always been ok, many times it has been a little too close for MY comfort but His time is PERFECT.

Thanks for a wonderful post Tracie.
Merry Christmas!

Sorry I haven't replied to this. I have thought about it a lot though. For me, it is all about faith and that is so hard to explain to someone who needs concrete "proof". I also could name many examples of God's hand in my life but it really comes down to faith. Sometimes I will think about creation and especially the birth of my children (or any child) and wonder "how can anyone not stand in awe of God's obvious hand in this?" Every day is a miracle and it is so sad to know so many people don't see it.

Such an awesome post Tracie! God is so real and everyday I feel his precence in my life and in our little family! I don't know how people live without Him at all and it really saddens my heart sometimes. Here's a little story from just the other day that I felt God very close to me. We had just left from seeing Narnia (AMAZING!) and Kiersten wanted a dessert but it was 10pm so I told her no. I got the the lane to turn the opposite direction from McDonalds and at the VERY last second I pulled into the drivethrough...much to my daughters surprise! And really mine! But once we got on road again and on our way we came up on a very bad accident that had literally happened seconds before we got there...they were just getting out of cars and seeing what had happened. So in my little head I said a prayer of thanks for God changing my mind on the icecream because that really could have been us in that accident if we had been a second earlier! Some could call that a coincedence but I definately call it God watching over us!

I know God is totally real. And faith is not something easy to explain to anyone. It is just something you have, and you 'know' to me. So many things that I think, or feel are not just coincidence. I will give you one small example. I have a friend that I don't talk on the phone to often but I see her a lot- God was telling me I needed to call her recently... I thought. And at the same exact moment that she came into my thoughts and I was thinking I needed to call her in a few minutes... she called me.
So I was amazed... because I felt overwhelmed by this feeling that she needed me. And that is why she called because she is a new mom and she had been crying and praying, and God told her to just call me and talk to me to help her through some things that were going on.
I wish I would have read that thread on 2Peas. But truly I know it would probably just make me so sad!
To me, life without Jesus is definitely no life!
