blessings to you

In my lifetime, I have heard many pastors say that if you say things to your children like, "you are stupid" - "you're good for nothing" - "you can't do anything right" - you are cursing them. You can actually put a curse on their life and they will grow up to be exactly what you said about them - stupid, good for nothing, etc. As a Mother, I have always tried to be very cognizant of this and never say things like that to my child. I have said, "that was stupid" but not "you are stupid."

Last night I visited a favorite website of mine - www.maxlucado.com - if you're not familar with him, he is a wonderful author and pastor. He has an article/sermon called 31 Blessings. It's about speaking blessings into the life of people you love. I realized that even though I have always been fully aware of never speaking a curse into my child's life, I haven't really spoken blessings into her life. So this morning, I dropped her off at my Mom's and before she got out of the car I said, "Caroline, I speak blessings to you for your day that you will be happy and healthy and enjoy your day. May you think of the Lord today and praise Him." (Or something like that.) She said, "Mama - WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT?" (Like I was crazy! LOL) So I explained it to her and she just smiled really big. She liked it.

Have a blessed day!!!

This is so true. I am thankful that I have always been aware of not saying degrading things to my children. It is so important that they know that no matter what I love them just as God loves us no matter what! (good thing too!)
