oh happy day

Can I just say that I am so happy right now over my new desk that I am just goofy? Seriously - I have wanted a better scrapping area for so long that I can't even remember. Originally I spent $300 on cubes from Target that have a desktop that goes with them. I loved the storage part of the cubes but from the beginning I didn't like the narrow desktop (19") or being up against the wall. But I couldn't figure out another way to organize my room so that it would work and I hadn't seen a desk that just thrilled me. So for Christmas, I asked for money, I consulted the Peas and they pointed me in the direction of a desk from Target for $199 + $60 shipping. It was exactly what I wanted! I knew I could get that much for Christmas. Then I did a little research after someone else mentioned that Ikea had a similar desk. Lo and behold, they had THE VERY SAME DESK for $90!!!! $90 people!!! So as I've mentioned, I took a little trip and got me a desk. heehee

I love it!!!!!!! My sweet, dear, precious husband put it together Monday even though he was sick and it was his last day off. We moved everything around and put it behind the couch in the Den. The computer is now upstairs which is good since I'm addicted to the internet and never scrap. I haven't scrapped on my new desk yet. I've organized and organized some more.

So the very top picture is looking in to my Den from the kitchen....this pic (to the right - click to enlarge) shows how I have my cubes now. They're in the very same place as they always were but I scooted one set under the desktop where I used to sit. There's room for one more set but they're no onger being made. Target just came out with a new style of cubes that are similar, I'm going to get a set of those and slide them in if I can find them in my area. The set on the far left are Store In Style by CIS. The top drawer holds my paper. I need more drawers so I hope I can find the newest Target cubes. If anyone has seen them in Nashville, let me know!

Now here's a pic from the other side of my den, looking toward my desk. I am facing the tv now (armoire) so I can watch tv and scrap. BTW, the desk top is 59" long by 29 1/2" deep and is perfect. Just big enough without being overwhelming. I have my cardstock on the lower left shelf in a wooden crate. I love it!!!!! Sorry this is so long----just had to share! Let me know what ya think!

Hi Tracie - you don't know me, but I'm a fellow Middle-Tennessean too. :) Just wanted to say that I love your scrap area, and your desk! Can you tell me the specifics about it? What is the name?

Thanks!
Courtney

Tracie, your room is awesome, and that new desk ROCKS! I just love your space - so open and roomy. :-)

Hmmmm, I spy something pink in the far right corner of pic #3 from the top. Wonder what that could be? (teeheehee *wink, wink*)

Courtney - hi there!

The desk is three pieces you buy separately. The two trestle legs are called Vika Artur. Here is a link... http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15564&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=60808&langId=-1&parentCats=15564*16225*15876 They are $30 each. The desktop is I think called Vika Amon and available in lots of different colors/finishes. The price varies according to size. The one I got was $30 and is 59" long. You can get them longer, up to 63" but they were out of that one in Atlanta the day I went. You can get it in birch, knotty pine, glass and more.

You should really check out Ikea in Atlanta if you haven't been. It only took me 3.5 hours to get there!

Good to meet you!

Oooh, you luck girl!

LOVE the new space.

I am so envious, but I'll get over it. :)

Thanks for sharing a very cool space that I want to print off and hang for future plans.

P.S. Come on over to my blog in a few days and I'll post my dream room.

:)

Wow that is really cool!!!

But I have to say my suspisions (sp?) of you being a neat freak has completely been confirmed! Your white carpet doesn't even have a spot on it. Everything so pretty and neat and in it's spot. It makes me jealous! But I will never ever be that person. Well get to work girl! Make some pretty layouts and scan them in and show us!

Chelle - you are hilarious. That carpet is tan (same color as the couch) and it is spotted from here to Jersey!!! Actually behind the couch where the pics are only has one spot but you should see the front of the couch. There's purple paint under Caroline's little white table. I'm ready to replace it but Mike thinks it can be steamed out.

You should see the front of my den when I took these pics. Barbies and Little People are everywhere! Kitchen was full of dirty dishes. Dirty laundry piled up. Seriously. YOu have me confused with Martha Stewart. LOL I love you for having that much faith in me though!

Gorgeous, Tracie! I love that desk and I'm jealous that your space looks so neat and clean. It looks like a photo shoot from Real Simple magazine!

Looks great Tracie! Ok, I have to admit that when you first posted the pic of the table (from the store) I was like "wow, I knew her house would be nice, but geez". Then I read on and found out it was the store display. Ok, so today I'm like "she's got a better house than IKEA, GEEEEEEEEEEZ"

I love the new desk. I just use one of those six foot tables in my scrap room but it works for now. One of these days I really want to spend to re-do. Dh would let me now but I am the one who wants to wait! He did just get me a 23 inch LCD TV for my room that I'm gushing about to everyone. LOL Anyway, IF I'm ever in Nashville again, maybe we can get together to scrap again at the store. Remember that? :)

Tracie, looks GREAT! I love that table. DH is redoing "his room", which will actually be a family room in the basement, but will be decorated more to suite him (I have the rest of the house). My scrapbook area is down there also, but in a different room. I can't wait till he gets area finished so he can start my area! I'm going to have a L shaped work space. I got some cabinets and countertops from a contractor friend. In total, I'll have about 12 to 13 feet of workspace .... whooo - hooo!!!
