what I did today

Wanna know what I didn't do today? SCRAP! I meant to. I had my project almost completed. Sunday is my designated scrap day. But for some reason, I started thinking about our upcoming school year starting soon and I got the urge to look at our new curriculum. See, I bought it back in May and I hadn't taken it out of the box yet. Ooops. We need to start school soon so I got it all out and looked through it.

Last year, we were very casual about school. We got up when we wanted to and watched some tv before school. I didn't really plan that well, we just read great books and did a few math and phonics pages every day with a bunch of field trips thrown in for good measure. At the end of the year, we had several books we were supposed to read that didn't get read and some Bible memory verses that didn't get memorized. All the Math and Phonics got done but I kinda felt like a failure for not making sure it ALL got done.

But that was Kindergarten. Kindergarten is supposed to be fun in my book. Filled with play and imagination and just getting into the groove of learning. Caroline was reading really well by the middle of the year so I felt like we were doing good.

Today I decided to do First Grade in a more structured way. I read all about the curriculum. It has 170 lessons and I have 10 field trips planned. That will give us exactly the 180 days we need to be legal. :)

So I made this nifty calendar on my computer and put all our lessons and trips on there. I feel so organized now! It took me a few hours to make this calendar and figure it all out but now I will start each day/week knowing exactly what to do and feel good knowing that it will all get done! I made us a daily schedule for 10 am to 2 pm. That gives us time to watch Mr. Rogers and have a 30 minute lunch too.

I even decided to start a week early. So now I have one week left to organize, get some fresh pencils and figure out our new Math program.

Just thought I'd share. I didn't get to scrap today but I feel really good about what I did get accomplished.

Go me! I love homeschooling.

Caroline said, "can we start school already? I'm sick of watching tv and doing nothing!" LOL! I hope she keeps that attitude for a while!

Yeah for you, Tracie! I need a plan, too. I don't necessarily homeschool, but I do want to "map out" a plan for the school year and get some trips planned, memory verses chosen and definite projects in the works.
YOu may have motivated me just a bit!
