are you too busy?

I heard the greatest lesson tonight by Joyce Meyer. Have you heard of her? She is my second favorite preacher/teacher, second only to my own dear Pastor. God always speaks through her to say exactly to me what I need to hear! She comes on every night here at 11 pm on Channel 21 but tonight I caught her earlier on another channel. The title of the lesson was "Are you too busy?" (Part 11)

Umm....yes, I am!

It really hit home with me. She said, "God wants you to be fruitful, not just busy." Basically she talked about how we get so busy running around doing all the things we have to do, that we miss what God wants us to do for Him or what we are really supposed to be doing in life.

Guilty.

Sometimes the day will fly by and we've homeschooled, had Girl Scouts or a meeting, we've eaten out, done laundry, dishes, played, organized, got online, and then...the day is over. "What did I do for God today?," I ask myself.

I did a Bible search for "fruitful" and was amazed at how often it is mentioned! An oft quoted Bible verse says... Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. (Genesis 9:1)

I do think he meant "have babies" and make more people for Earth but over and over the Bible talks about fruit and being fruitful and I think it means to be productive. I want to be productive for God. I love this verse in John 15:2: He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.

Wow. I want God to prune my heart continually and cut off the things that are not fruitful.

So how can I be fruitful?

I can have more of the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness (Galatians 5:22).

Boy do I need to work on that. Especially patience and kindness. I want kindness of the heart. Where I don't even have to think about being kind, I just AM. I would never hurt anyone's feelings or come across the wrong way or have a bad attitude if I could only have kindness in my spirit. God help me be more like you. This is my daily prayer and yet still, I fall short.

How else can I be fruitful?

I can do as He called me to do and "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation." Isn't it the best news ever?

I can invest in growing my child into the woman of God I know she will be. A much better one than me. I can model love, faithfulness, prayer, Bible study and more for her so she will know what is right.

I can invest in being a comfort and support to my husband. I can offer a shoulder to cry on to my friends and just love them. I can help the poor, the sick, the hungry. So many ways.

I don't want to just be busy. I want to be fruitful. This lesson really hit home with me tonight. I would love for you to hear it. You can watch or listen by clicking here...Are You Too Busy?

This was just too good not to share. I hope it blesses you.

Thanks for the reminder, Tracie. I've been working on giving all that I do for God's glory- and I mean really practical things. Turning cleaning dishes into a prayer, cleaning up the toys in the living room for the upteenth time that day and even brushing my teeth. We're told to do all things for the glory of God, so as mums, we need to remember that our house is our mission field and that is where we honor God and bless our family!
Good stuff today...

love this thought....thank you so much for encouraging me and others with it. I want to get to the end of each day and more on my "to do list for God" is checked off than my general "to do" list.

First, I need to start with making my "for God to do list" that might help instead of squeezing it in between all my other busy-ness.

Good word....very good word!

Love you -- jann
