live inspired - episode 14

On this week's Live Inspired podcast, I'm interviewing Mendi Yoshikawa, owner of Sunny Studio Stamps. Mendi, a talented scrapbook and card designer who works with Doodlebug Design and Pebbles (among many others), recently started her own stamp company, Sunny Studio Stamps. I love Mendi's delightful designs and her willingness to share how she saved and started her own business, as well as other business tips that she's learned along the way.

I'm always so happy when people are willing to be transparent about their beginnings and how things are going in their business. Mendi really impressed me with her courage and passion for building a business and making her own dream come true. I'm so glad I got the chance to talk to her and I look forward to seeing her success in the coming years!

If you'd like to win one of Mendi's delightful stamp sets, visit Sunny Studio Stamps and check out her designs and let us know in the comments the name of your favorite set! I'll choose a winner Wednesday, 2/17 and announce it in next week's Live Inspired podcast! Be sure to listen and see if you've won!

Mendi is generously offering not only a giveaway but a coupon code, exclusively for Live Inspired listeners! From now until Friday, February 19th, you can save 20% off your entire purchase using the code "LiveInspired."

While you're at Sunny Studio Stamps be sure to check out the samples that go along with each stamp set. There is some awesome inspiration there on both the company's and Mendi's personal blog.

Have a great day!

Hi Tracie,
I'm so glad to have found your podcast via Noell Hyman. I've been listening to your archives and appreciate the way you interview your guests and have a great discussion.

One thing that I have noticed is that you mention that you have a hard time doing things for yourself on a deadline. You keep saying that you need to be more disciplined. This struck me as quite interesting. I just finished the book, "Better Than Before", by Gretchen Rubin, a book about habit-forming. Rubin places people in four categories or tendencies in how they do things. You seem to me to be a classic obliger. I hope you stop beating yourself up because you aren't lazy or undisciplined. You just need to find an external source of accountability and then you'll be fine! You can go to Gretchen Rubin's blog to learn more and get tips about how to work within your tendency. I know that her book and blog have helped me tremendously. Once I figured out my tendency, her tips really made a difference for me.

Keep up the good work!

What wonderful stamps! I am excited to learn about her stamp shop! I just listened to the Scrap Gals podcast a few days ago where you were discussing how to use stamps. I was so thankful for that episode because I am really getting into wanting to add stamps to my scrapbooking layouts and I was confused about the different types of ink. I learned the hard way that pigment ink is very messy and takes a long time to dry. I learned the hard way because I was using that ink on my homemade Christmas cards! I really needed to learn more about the different types of ink. I was thankful for that episode for sure! :)
I can't wait to listen to this episode to learn more about Mendi. I love her Sunny Sentiments Stamps!

Tiffany - Thank you so much for the recommendation. Gretchen Rubin is actually my favorite author, I've read both her books on happiness and I own the new one about habits but I haven't had time to read it - working too hard! :) You're about the 10th person to tell me that though so I need to pick it up. Thanks so much. I was struggling with keeping myself on my own deadlines last fall but in 2016, I've been pretty productive every day. I ended up chalking my aimlessness up to the fact that I was just burned out on working so hard for so long so I took a couple months off and now I'm back on track. I'm doing better about staying on task now. It's funny how often people comment on that part of all the things I've said. That strikes a chord with so many people. Thanks so much for listening - I hope you see this!

Thank you, Mendi, for sharing your story about how you started your stamp business. The scrapbook (and stamps/card-making) industry is just so fascinating to me, and I love hearing about it from an insiders' viewpoint. I am going to have to check out your blog, too! Your stamps are really adorable!! I'm having such a hard time deciding which set is my favorite; the "Bundled Up" or "Backyard Bugs" are vying for my top spot! :)

I enjoyed listening to this episode with Mendi. I started out my paper crafting journey as a card maker and, although I consider myself a scrapbooker, I still LOVE, LOVE, LOVE stamps and continue to buy and use them on my scrapbook pages. I checked out Mendi's stamps and they are adorable. I think my favorite is HAPPY HOME STAMPS. I could see using this in scrapbooking layouts and Project Life. Thanks Tracie and Mendi for the chance to win! Wishing you continued success, Mendi!!

Thanks so much for this great podcast! I am one of those people who bought a stamp set (or three!) from Sunny Studios on their first day. I think Mendi's designs really helped sell me. I love the way she uses color...so bright and beautiful! I'm torn between the Sunny Sentiments stamps set and the Backyard Bugs set. Let's face it: if I win one, I'm totally buying the other (and the dies that go with it!). Thanks for the chance to win and thanks for the inspiration!

Oh my gosh, I remember when Mendi was on the Craft Warehouse design team (I used to live in that town)! Of course I never met her, but when I saw her as a doodlebug designer, I was thinking it was a match made in heaven. I really hope her company grows and does well. Those school stamps are stinkin' cute!

I was just recently introduced to Sunny Studio stamps and love the designs. Bundled Up is my favorite set because I love penguin but I also really like Sending My Love because of the various options for the animals to hold. The pigtail banner die is fabulous, too!
